Searchable Database of Temples
There are two ways to search temples:
1. Keyword Search
To search the database text fields, enter keywords into the search box below. For temple names, we use the transliteration that is used by the institution itself. For other foreign words and names, we use the most widely accepted form of scholarly transliteration (Hanyu pinyin, Wylie, etc.). For words with diacriticals, you can search with or without diacritical marks, but do not spell out the sounds phonetically (e.g., Bhaiṣajyaguru or Bhaisajyaguru, not Bhaishajyaguru). Please note that, for consistency, the reference language for all common Buddhist terms is Pāli or Sanskrit (e.g., entry for a Chinese temple will use Avalokiteśvara instead of Guanyin).
2. Interactive map
Search for temples on the map, using the filters to narrow down your search (right-click or command-click to deselect options). You can click on any red map marker to bring up basic information about a temple. For full details, click on the temple name.
